Floresta Tanzania, a leading conservation organization, launched a tree planting campaign on December 11, 2024, at Mboreni water source in Hai District. During the event, 2,325 trees were planted as part of ongoing efforts to protect and conserve water sources in the region.
The campaign was attended by nine government officials from District and Regional levels, alongside representatives from the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) . Floresta Tanzania coordinated the event, with active participation from members of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) groups under its management. These group members were instrumental in ensuring the campaign’s success, demonstrating their commitment to safeguarding Mboreni water source for future generations.
This tree planting marks the beginning of Floresta Tanzania’s second annual tree planting season in Hai District. The organization aims to plant 500,000 trees across six districts in Kilimanjaro Region: Siha, Hai, Moshi, Rombo, Mwanga, and Same.
Each year, Floresta Tanzania plants 1.5 million trees in Kilimanjaro through its VSLA groups. The organization conducts two major tree planting campaigns: the first begins in April, and the second in November. Both campaigns are carefully scheduled during the rainy seasons to ensure the highest survival rates for the trees planted.
Floresta Tanzania works closely with the government in selecting planting sites, carrying out the campaigns, and ensuring the long-term protection of the planted trees. This collaboration not only aligns with national conservation goals but also raises public awareness of environmental protection efforts.
This campaign is part of Floresta Tanzania’s broader mission to protect natural resources and enhance the resilience of ecosystems in the Kilimanjaro Region. It highlights the importance of community-driven conservation efforts and sets a strong example for sustainable environmental practices.
