Inspiring Inclusion: A Story of Resilience and Empowerment

In Rombo District, within Kilimanjaro region, a member of FLORESTA’s Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) embarked on a journey of exploration. Since 2020 she was Eager to explore opportunities, her journey took a unique turn when she discovered her passion of using natural methods to address the challenge of poultry disease through training conducted by FLORESTA which she attended.

During training sessions proceeding, I found myself drawn to training particularly on natural poultry disease remedies. The healing properties of indigenous medicinal plants fascinated me”, she recalled with enthusiasm,

In 2023, she embarked on a journey to harness the healing powers of nature. Equipped with knowledge from the training, she harvested natural medicinal plants, following prescribed procedures. She dried and processed the plants, transforming them into potent poultry medicine.

“The results were impressive”; she personally witnessed the positive effects of her natural remedies on her own poultry as she applied it to her poultry first. Motivated by the result, she made the decision to share the outcome of her experiment with the local community and started selling the product to the local market. “I wanted to introduce natural remedies to my community, not only because they cure poultry diseases but also because they are safe for humans who consume the poultry“,  she explains,

Today, she has found success as an entrepreneur. Through her business, she is now able to generate additional income beyond agriculture and livestock keeping. This newfound cash flow enables her to provide for her grandchildren, ensuring their well-being.
